Licensing

CFDL is source available under the Business Source License 1.1 (SPDX: BUSL-1.1). It is not an open-source license, and we do not describe CFDL as open source.

What you can do

• Read, copy, and modify the source.
• Make non-production use of any kind (development, evaluation, testing, research, education).
• Make production use — run CFDL inside your organization, in your own models, pipelines, and products.

What requires a commercial license

Offering CFDL itself to third parties on a hosted or embedded basis, in a product or service, in exchange for a fee or other commercial benefit. If you want to sell CFDL-as-a-service or ship it inside a commercial product, contact the maintainers for a commercial license.

Change license

Each released version converts to the Apache License, Version 2.0 on its Change Date — four years after that version's release. The LICENSE file distributed with each release carries the exact parameters and is authoritative if anything on this page disagrees with it.

Contributions

CFDL is maintained by a small internal team. External pull requests are not accepted at this time. Bug reports are welcome via GitHub issues. Security issues should be reported privately through GitHub Security Advisories rather than a public issue.
