Licensing

CFDL is licensed under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0 (SPDX: PolyForm-Noncommercial-1.0.0). It is not an open-source license, and we do not describe CFDL as open source. The source is not distributed; what you install is the compiled CLI, the language server, the Python SDK, the editor extension and the packs.

Free use

Any noncommercial purpose, without asking:

  • Personal projects and your own study.
  • Teaching, and academic research.
  • Use by charities, educational institutions and government bodies.
  • Evaluation, before deciding on a commercial license.

Commercial use

Use by or for a business is commercial use and needs a commercial license. That includes an employee's use in a company's own models, a consultant's use for a client, and any product or service that runs CFDL for others.

Getting a commercial license

Write to support@cfdl.dev and say what you intend to do with CFDL and roughly how many people will use it. Two tiers exist:

  • Internal use — your organization models with CFDL: the CLI, the Python SDK, the editor extension and the server, on your own machines and in your own pipelines, for your own and your clients' work. Priced per organization, quoted on request.
  • Hosted or embedded use — you run CFDL for others, as a service or inside a product you sell. Agreed case by case.

Evaluation before deciding is noncommercial use and needs no license. A commercial license covers the version you license and every release for the term, and the terms in the agreement take precedence over this page.

Earlier releases

Releases through 0.9.0 were published under the Business Source License 1.1 and remain under it. The LICENSE file distributed with each release is authoritative if anything on this page disagrees with it.

Contributions

CFDL is maintained by a small internal team. External pull requests are not accepted at this time. Bug reports and questions go to support@cfdl.dev. Security issues go privately to security@cfdl.dev.
